Doom 3

I realized today that I can't wait for the Xbox release of Doom 3. And the reason seems to be that I've been making that transition from mainly a PC gamer to being mainly a console gamer. It's a transition I've made before, and I've made the opposite transition several times, too. This time, though, the transition saddens me, partly because it's a sequel to one of my most beloved games that made me finally understand what was going on.

I've bounced back and forth between console and PC gaming many times over the years. For awhile, I'd play mostly console games, and then my tastes would shift and I would play PC games. And then I'd switch back. However, I kept hold of one truth throughout all that time -- that certain games were better to play on the PC. First-person shooters are amongst that group. However, when Doom 3 hit the PC stands and my copy arrived, I tried playing it. It wasn't worth the trouble. My machine could barely handle it, so I put Doom 3 away.

With the impending release of Doom 3 for Xbox, I'm feeling good vibes. Even though the Xbox can't compete with higher-end PCs, at least I'll finally be able to play Doom 3. Unfortunately, it will be with a gamepad rather than a mouse and keyboard. And I'm thinking I'll be leaning the console way more and more, even with those first-person shooters that I love.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. Doom 3 was released last week when I was in Vancouver.
