How long did you say that campaign lasted?
Thinking back to the beginning of my Dungeons & Dragons Greyhawk campaign in the fall of 2000, I realized that this is the longest campaign I have ever run ... by far. Most of my campaigns have been short-lived, lasting no more than a few months.
Let's face it: Up until I started my Greyhawk campaign, I was somewhat flighty as a game master. I had neat ideas. I dropped whatever game was currently on the go to run with those neat ideas. Then the neatness of the ideas petered out after a few sessions, and then I was on to the next neat idea. Such a sad state I was in. All those years of gaming wasted on short campaigns that never actually ended -- or really went anywhere.
All good things eventually come to an end, though, and I do finally see an ending to my Greyhawk campaign. It's still a ways off, just peeking over the horizon, but an end is in sight.
And then I'll be on to the next neat idea. Good times, man. Good times.
