Rested up from Vancouver

I didn't really have much to say last week while I was attending the Cisco Partner Summit -- hence only one post all week. When I returned from the trip, I was beat. While I was no longer on Eastern Standard Time, I had also not quite made the transition to Pacific Standard Time. I was somewhere in between. My best guess is I was on Mountain Standard Time, but I think I'm about back to normal (whatever normal is).

Two things really stood out for me on the Vancouver trip. The first is that I now own my first Apple product. Specifically, it's a 512MB iPod Shuffle. The look on Logan's face on Saturday when we met to see Sin City was priceless, although I didn't really understand what he was so baffled about at first. He later explained that he never expected me to be the type to own anything by Apple. ... Maybe I shouldn't tell him I'm thinking of migrating to an iBook the next time I buy a laptop. ;)

Anyway, the iPod Shuffle is really cool. As a reward for Cisco Partner Summit attendees who filled out their feedback forms, Cisco put a shiny new iPod Shuffle in their hands. Thankfully, that included media. I've wanted an MP3 player for some time, but I could never justify the cost to myself. I'm enough of a whore that I would never turn down a free gadget from a tech vendor. My journalism instructors would be so disappointed in me.

The second thing that stood out as a highlight of the event was that I met an interesting Fredicton-based journalist named George Butters. We met on the Monday night at the Canadian media/analyst dinner and chatted a fair bit. George had to be the most interesting person I met at the event. He's been a journalist for a long time, and he's done his time in broadcast and print. However, he also takes on all sorts of non-journalism-related projects. One of his current projects is with an animation company called Wetsand Animation. I think I might have riddled him with questions. Damn that animation fanboy in me!

George also runs a site called Smartypants.com. That has to be one the coolest domain names ever registered. The site is mostly made up of tech articles (some reprinted) and tech tips right now.
