Hartford and back

It's been over a week since I posted. The reason for this is that I've been in Connecticut. On Thursday morning, Jacquie and I packed up the car and headed east toward Ganonoque to cross into the U.S. Due to bad traffic, it took us over eleven hours to reach Middletown, Conn., which is where Jacquie's brother and his girlfriend live.

Rich and Erin have a nice house in Middletown, but we didn't really spend much time actually at the house. We spent most of our time running around. I felt like I spent half my extended long weekend in the car, actually.

So we arrived later in the evening on Thursday night, got a tour of the house, chatted for awhile and then hit the hay. On Friday morning, we got up, and the four of us drove for an hour-and-a-half to Rhode Island to go to the beach. I'm not really a beach person, so I guarded our stuff and did some reading while the others played in the ocean waves and then sunned themselves. I got a little bit too much sun, but the sunburns were pretty minor. Good thing I put on some sunscreen.

On Saturday, Rich, Jacquie and I headed into New York City. It took a couple of hours to drive in. Then we parked and relied on the subway and our own feet to make our way around the city. We hit Central Park, F.A.O. Schwartz, Battery Park and Times Square. I'd seen everything except the toy store before (which, incidentally, was a disappointment). I had been to the edge of Central Park before, although I hadn't really walked through it, so I guess that was kind of new. By the end of the day, we were all tired.

On Sunday, the three of us stuck around Connecticut. We went to Mystic and ate at the famous Mystic Pizza. The pizza was good, but I don't think it's the best pizza I've ever had. Hype does tend to ruin things, eh? Still, the trip into Mystic was good, but the stop on the way at a cool used book store called The Book Barn was much cooler. Anyway, as Jacquie wanted, we got some lobster for that night's dinner, and we cooked the bottom-dwellers up when we got home.

On Monday, Jacquie and I were left to our own devices. We headed into West Hartford to check out a couple of games stores, and we ended up buying far too many board games and expansions for games we already have. I was very happy that I found the Munchkin Level Counter, though. :)

On Tuesday, we made the trek back to the Great White North. We waited until after rush hour subsided, and then we made the nine-hour drive back home.

All-in-all, it was a pretty good long weekend. Thankfully, I had Wednesday booked off for vacation, as well. As Jacquie said, we needed a vacation from our vacation. However, I saw Logan and Brian yesterday, and the three of us got in a game of Pirates of the Spanish Main, which I was quite happy about. I've been itching to try the game ever since I bought my first packs a couple of weeks ago.
