Kingdom Come

On Sunday, Logan and I did our (almost) weekly trip to Oshawa to hit the comic book/gaming shops. Sadly, Wyldstar continues to have its distribution problems, and because of this, I'm lagging a little behind on a couple of titles -- specifically, one issue of Conan and two issues of The Punisher. I'd pick the missing titles up at Worlds Collide, but that store doesn't quite have the same breadth of available titles -- and both Conan and Punisher too often seem to be MIA.

I picked up some of the Marvel Masterpieces reprint issues, and they were kind of amusing to read. Comic book writing was utter shit back in the early 1960s. Then again, I think it was utter shit until sometime recently (possibly the late 1990s is when it started getting half-decent). That said, a few titles have had good writing prior to this century. Preacher kicked ass, for instance.

Anyway, aside from some of the reprint titles, I picked up trade paperback of Kingdom Come, which was a good Lawrence loaned me a few years back and which I found to be a really good read. I forgot about most of what happened, but I remembered that it was good. I wanted a good read, so I ended up picking up the book. It's as good as I remember it being, and I was delighted that I had forgotten most of what happened, so I was able to be completely surprised by what happened.
