A couple of nights ago, I finished reading The Black Donnellys by Thomas P. Kelly. I'm pretty sure I picked the book up at a cool, little book store not far from where Steve Campbell had his wedding, but it took a couple of months to get around to reading it (too much on my to-read list these days).
While I'd heard of the Donnellys, I didn't know a lot about them. I suppose I've heard a lot more than the U.S.'s notorious Hatfield-McCoy feud than the so-called Donnelly feud (I say "so-called" because they didn't really feud with anyone in particular; they were just terrors of Biddulph Township). The book was originally printed back in the Fifties, so while reading it, it feels like the feud wasn't all that far back in history, but it actually happened from about 1847 to 1880.
After reading it, I'm really curious about the area itself. I think I'd like to take a trip to Lucan to look around, see the Donnelly cemetery plot, check out the area where they lived and take a whole bunch of pictures.
Hey, Rich, if you're reading this, you ever been to Lucan on one of your excursions? If not, you up for a day trip sometime this summer? :)
