I finished reading The Shadow of Yesterday, and I have to say I like it. There are a couple of elements that I'm not sure about, though -- such as the forced retirement of characters if a certain level of success on a check is made. Still, I really like the idea behind Secrets and Keys, as well as the campaign world itself. While I'd like to give this a try at some point, I don't think it's going to be immediate.

I think the forced retirement was added because the dice system starts to break beyond a certain point.
On a more positive note, though, the way it is written, it allows a character to finish on a high note, rather than fading away along with a campaign that has run on too long. YMMV

Yeah, I could understand that. I just wonder how long it takes to get to the point where your character has to retire.
Well, theoretically, it takes as long as a player wants it to. You can only achieve a transcendent die roll if you have a ability at 4 (IIRC, I don't have the rules right here) or higher. If you don't want to transcend, don't raise an ability that high.
There are a lot of really good Actual Play posts about TSoY on The Forge. Just use their advanced search to track some down. If they can't sell you on TSoY, your interests are different than mine :)

Okay. That's what I wasn't really sure about. The mechanics are still a little fuzzy. I need to read them over again in more detail to truly understand how everything comes together (and even then, it'll probably take a couple of play sessions to really get it).
BTW, I'm sold on TSOY. It's one of the cooler games I've read in the last decade. The trick will be selling my game group and actually slotting it in to try it out.
Thanks for your comments, BTW.
