Let’s not call it a love interest. Perhaps more of an infatuation. After a fantastic tryst a year ago, I was left with little more than a high school crush from afar as my colleagues starting tweeting back about VMworld.
No, seriously, what did you think I meant?
The growing VMware virtualization trade show outgrew even Vegas this year and found a new home in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Viewing the news from afar, I covered VMworld 2012 from the comfort of my home for Talkin’ Cloud. Unsurprising was the major topics of the conference. Cloud computing in one form or another took centre stage in San Fran. It was clearly a follow-up to last year’s theme, and I suspect it may very well be the hot topic for the next few VMworlds.
The surprising thing is just how big this conference is getting. Sure, it’s no Salesforce.com Dreamforce in terms of numbers — not yet, anyway — but it is rivaling some of the trade shows of old in its size and scope. Who would have thought a decade ago there would be so much to talk about regarding virtualization?
Speaking of Dreamforce, take a look at my preview of the upcoming conference over on Talkin’ Cloud. As with VMworld, I’ll be covering the conference from North of 60. It’s a special conference for Salesforce.com this year, marking the tenth anniversary of Dreamforce.
My entire life isn’t all about cloud computing. The autumn is coming (and here in Fort Smith, some days it feels like it’s already here), and for beer lovers in Toronto, that means Toronto Beer Week is only days away. I’m going to miss the Spearhead pub crawl duel, as well as the second annual Barrel Bragging Rights competition. Actually, what I’ll really miss are all the friends that help to make TBW a spectacular beer-soaked experience.
Speaking of which, I’ve been neglecting Beer In Canada too much this summer, but good news; you can finally read the little article I wrote about Six Pints Beer Academy. Keep an eye out for another article based on an interview with Spearhead Brewing founder Dimitri van Kampen. It should be up soon.
Cheers!
