CABA Evening with a Brewer: Mitch LaGoy of Rohrbach Brewing

The Evening with a Brewer (EWB) series of CABA events are treats for homebrewers and craft beer lovers, and on Friday night, CABA played host to Mitch LaGoy of Rohrback Brewing for one such event.

Mitch brought with him Rohrback’s Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Harvest Ale and Oktoberfest Ale for sampling, and all of the beers served were quite well balanced and tasty. Since it’s the season, I also sampled the Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale and the Grand River Highballer Pumpkin Ale, both of were on cask at the Rhino. I’m a big fan of pumpkin beers, and after Mitch’s talk, I think I have the necessary knowledge to develop my own pumpkin beer and brew it at home. In fact, my brewing partner Will and I plan to collaborate on a pumpkin ale before the pumpkin harvest is over.

If you live in the Toronto area and love beer, the CABA EWB events are well worth attending. For ten bucks (plus another ten for your annual membership), how can you go wrong? Various beers are served, and the discussions will give you new appreciation of the brewing process and the various techniques utilized in making your favourite beers.

Next up for CABA is the annual general meeting in November. This one you definitely don’t want to miss. This will be my fourth AGM in a row, and as I’ve told so many others before, it’s my favourite CABA event of the year.
