Mechamorphosis

An episodic campaign of giant morphing robots run by Chris Talbot

Season One

1. Pilot Episode, Part One

It was mere days before the Exiles were to leave Mecha Terra when the leader, Aegis, discovered a traitor in their midst. The mechamorph known as Riff-Raff had turned out to be a traitor. Aegis quickly called a meeting and asked for volunteers to stop Riff-Raff before he reported to High Tyrant Obelisk. Torque, Air Wolf, Scrapper and Backdraft volunteered and set off along the Grand Thoroughway to find Riff-Raff. Torque caught a lift in the sky with Air Wolf, and the two spotted Riff-Riff zig-zagging through traffic on the way to Tyrant headquarters. Firing on the fleeing mechamorph, they blasted him off his wheels and over the guard rail of the Grand Thoroughway before Scrapper and Backdraft could catch up with them. They quickly loaded Riff-Raff into the back of Scrapper and returned with their captive to Aegis and the other Exiles.

On the day of the exodus from the planet, Aegis discovered there was not enough nexus energy to get all nine of the Exiles' ships off the ground and out into space. Calling upon Air Wolf, he asked if the flying mechamorph and his friends would invade the nearest Tyrant nexus energy stockpile and steal whatever they could. Without it, they would never escape from Mecha Terra. The four mechamorphs headed out once again, this time arriving in front of the nexus energy warehouse. Two enormous mechamorphs stood guard, their guns as big as themselves. Scrapper and Backdraft walked up to them, pretended to be responding to an emergency and then attacked. Caught unawares, the two guards fell under Backdraft's flamethrower, and the mechamorphs quickly broke the door of the warehouse down and loaded up on spare nexus energy cells.

Returning to the Exiles' base, the Tyrants soon to be on their heels, the mechamorphs dropped off the nexus energy cells and quickly got on board Aegis' ship. Soon all nine Exile ships were off into space, heading toward the white hole -- and hopefully freedom from Tyrant oppression. As soon as they entered the white hole, Aegis' ship began to shake, its rivets coming loose and the structural integrity of the ship starting to fail. Torque jumped onto sensors and watched as three of the other ships exploded within the white hole.

To maintain his balance as the ship shook, Backdraft sunk his axe into the ship's hull -- unfortunately, right into the starboard stabilizers, sending the ship into a spin. They suddenly emerged from the white hole in an unknown region of space with no other ships in visual range, but they were heading directly for the local solar system's star. Torque grabbed the controls from the pilot and steered them toward a blue planet. They soon entered orbit and crashed into an ocean.

As the ship sank beneath the waves, the mechamorphs all made their way to the exist. Air Wolf was the first there, and when he opened the exit hatch, he was blown back by water flooding into the compartment. He jumped out, followed closely by others, including Torque, Scrapper and Backdraft. The two big mechamorphs -- Scrapper and Backdraft -- noticed the ship was teetering on the edge of an underwater cliff. They grabbed hold, trying to hold the ship up as others escaped. When Aegis emerged, they let go, and the ship that had carried them to this planet fell off the edge into the dark abyss below.

The entire troupe of mechamorphs walked along the bottom of the ocean, heading in the direction they hoped land would be. When they surfaced on a beach full of tall, leafy trees, they found themselves caught in a storm of high winds and strong rain. Looking out, they saw an approaching flying vehicles -- blades circling overhead to keep it in the sky. As it approached, it opened fire, the familiar roar of fully-automatic slugthrowers touching their sensors. As some of the mechamorphs prepared to fight, Aegis ordered them to clear out and head for safety. He would hold the attacker off.

His nanites changing his bodily structure, Aegis assumed the form of the attacker and engaged the enemy. All around him, the other mechamorphs sensed other forms in the vicinity and quickly morphed into their new alternate forms. Air Wolf, like Aegis, became an attack chopper. Backdraft, who had served as an emergency vehicle before joining the Exiles, became a fire truck. Scrapper, who had served in recycling and waste management, became a dump truck. Torque took on the form of a motorcycle. Quickly, all mechamorphs (nearly twenty of them in total), set off along the beach of this new world to find safety.

2. Pilot Episode, Part Two

The Exiles made their way away from the ocean and soon found themselves in a small urban area very unlike the cities they were used to on Mecha Terra. Aegis managed to drive off his attacker and then catch up with his weary allies. They quickly sought out a place to hide (a series of storage garages), and then settled down. For the next few days, Air Wolf took to watching television, Scrapper spent his time listening to FM radio, Torque raced through the streets at 200 kilometres per hour (attracting small white vehicles with flashing red and blue lights atop them -- his "friends," he called them) and Backdraft blew his cover by morphing into his robot form and helping several human put out a burning house.

However, as the Exiles settled into their new home, they didn't realize the danger that had followed them to Earth. Stationed at the edge of the Mecha Terra solar system, the Tyrant Vorpal had tracked the nine ships entering the white hole. His science officer had hacked into the Exiles' main ship computer and discovered the reports that detailed the belief that the white hole was a portal to another area of the galaxy -- and that perhaps the Exiles could find a source of power beyond the white hole. Vorpal desired power, so he organized his followers and went through the white hole, emerging on the other side. His ship, just like the only surviving Exiles ship, crashed -- but rather than in the middle of the ocean, it crashed into the Nevada desert.

Days after they arrived on Earth, the news had reported on various sightings of giant robots, but most of the press seemed to be skeptical. However, during a television news story about a road show featuring ancient artifacts (on which had markings that the Exiles realized were ancient Mecha Terran marks), the reporter and others were killed. The cameraman didn't get a good shot of the murderers, but the appearance of two mechanical legs was proof for the Exiles that they were not the only 'morphs on Earth.

Scrapper, Air Wolf, Torque and Backdraft investigated the attack at a California museum, only to discover that the roof had been broken in. Rather than give themselves away, they set off to find out more. When Air Wolf remembered a news story about a meteor that had crashed in the Nevada desert, the four Exiles headed out into the desert, only to find a crashed Tyrant ship. They searched the ship and found no signs of the Tyrants, but they swiped the ship's nexus generator.

They contacted the rest of the Exiles and asked them to meet them at the Tyrant ship, but as they waited, Scrapper picked up reports on the radio of the Las Vegas Oil Refinery being under attack. The four Exiles contact Aegis to change their meeting plans to the location of the oil refinery. The entire group of Exiles arrived on the scene at about the same time. The refinery, they saw, had come under the control of the Tyrants. They led an assault against the Tyrants, but during the fight, Backdraft's flamethrower and various laser weapons damaged the oil refinery. The entire place went up in a ball of flame.

Scrapper was one of the few Exiles to remain unscathed by the explosion, and he helped to pull the other out of the wreckage. Injured and weak, Aegis ordered them all to head to the outskirts of the city. While flying to the oil refinery, he had noticed a warehouse in the desert that would suit as a base of operations. Once there, they settled in, knowing that it would take quite some time to do repairs. They also didn't know how many Tyrants had been destroyed in the battle.
